4 things to consider when in a PCOS Funk
So you have PCOS and you've been really proactive about managing it. The research you've done. The books you've read. The EXTRA veggies you've eate. The exercise. The self-care. The patience... ohhh the patience. You were doing so well! You got this! Until the one weekend you ate wayyy to much sugar ...and drank to much alcohol. Or you've forgotten to take your supplements for the past week. Maybe you missed the last 3 spin classes. Perhaps, you're STILL not pregnant after months of making progress in your health journey. What gives?! "Why can't I just get it right?!" you say.
1) Be Kind to Yourself
Being hard on yourself likely will only make things worse. Why? Because filling your mind with negative thoughts won't leave much room for creating a solution to your problem... and the problem will continue. Taking 1 step backward is often part of life. Realize this and find a way to move forward again.
2) Today is a New Day
If you are having a string of bad days when it comes to your eating and other lifestyle choices, you are not alone. The feeling of getting everything wrong for even a short while may seem like all your hard work was for nothing. Not true! Remember that today you can make better choices than yesterday and know that real change does take patience and perseverance.
3) Lesson Learned
When we slip back to old habits, we often start to feel crummy. Feeling crummy reminds us why we made the change in the first place! Teaching us this lesson may be exactly what we needed to light the fire under our @ss to get us motivated again.
4) Too Much Too Soon?
Sometimes when we want to change aspects of our lifestyle to better our health, we get a little eager. Too many changes too quickly can lead to unsustainable habits, burnout, and a depressed mood or "funk" when we don't reach our goals as soon as we hoped.
If you think you may be struggling with something more serious like depression, please seek help from a medical doctor.
