Are You Self-Sabotaging Your Success?

If you have serious goals you want to obtain, but your behavior continues to lead you in the exact opposite direction of your goals, chances are you are self-sabotaging. Maybe you found yourself eating candy after dinner even though you promised yourself you wouldn't. Maybe you joined friends for drinks instead of making it to that spin class you had on your calendar. Or have you stayed up an extra hour past your bedtime to catch an extra episode (or two) of your favorite show- I know I have. We all do things from time to time that keep us from reaching our health goals (or any goals for that matter). At the time, the derailment seems plenty worth it, but then you often experience feelings of guilt and regret!

Creating habits that we stick to not only brings us closer to our intended goal, but it improves our confidence and encourages us to strive for more. Lucky for us, we have the ability to start over after we veer off course - because we definitely will from time to time.

Losing 50 lbs. Training for a marathon. Regulating hormones. Building a successful business. Big goals take time, which is why we create mini goals along the way and we give ourselves grace. If we gave up every time we made a mistake, we would never end up where we want.

Thanks to Trish Blackwell, here are 10 tips to break the cycle of self-sabotage for good:

  1. Stop depriving yourself! (Deprivation sets us up for failure)

  2. Create a strong “Last 90 Minutes Routine” before you go to bed. This sets you up for success the next day.

  3. Camp out around the concept of grace

  4. Growth is everything – find gratitude for the lessons and nothing is wasted

  5. Overcome overwhelm by not over-focusing on the finish line

  6. Be proud of your small accomplishments along the way as they will keep the momentum going

  7. Shatter your belief ceilings

  8. Choose peace, not pressure

  9. Be here, now (not in the future, not in the past, not in comparison)

  10. Recharge yourself intentionally and know your capacity

Choose peace, not pressure truly resonates with me. Which one of these tips speaks to you?
